If you’ve attended a dinner a party at our place, you probably have experienced grazing on our star appetizer…
The Charcuterie Board. It’s somewhat of an art form that involves much more than throwing some meats, cheeses, and crackers together on a wooden board.

Here are some tips to making your own board…

1. Think color and texture — don’t put similar colors together or your board will look bland. Also choose items with smooth and rough surfaces like grapes and crackers;wet and dry like jams and nuts.
2. Include jars of honey, jam or mustard. Or a bowl of olives, cornichons, or your favorite dip.
3. It’s better to place larger items first like the cheeses, grapes, and bowls.
4. Other than grapes, mix in fruits in season like strawberries, kiwi, and cherries.
5. Have at least 3 different cheeses: firm, soft and creamy, aged, crumbly, blue, or smoked. My faves are Brie, Gouda, Cheddar, Chèvre, Gruyere.

I made this simple spread at my friend’s home in the states. I remember passing by Aldis and Trader Joe’s on the way to her place and just used her wooden chopping board.

6. Have at least 3 different meats. My favorites are dry cured salami, prosciutto, sopressata.
7. Use 2-4 different varieties of crackers. Depending on how big your board is.
8. Fill in the gaps with dried fruit and nuts.
9. Throw in some fresh herbs like rosemary and basil for garnish.
10. Wine pairing is very important. I personally like serving Cabernet Sauvignon or Chardonnay with my board.

Here’s a time lapse video of me prepping one yesterday. I prefer to put it right in front of everyone and not on a separate table because seeing my guests dig into the delicious spread non-stop while they chat away is my ultimate reward.🥰 There’s just always something in it for everyone! By the end of the night…it’s like it was never there! 😆 #devoured #noleftovers .
